Collared and less activity..

platinumtlc Nov 22, 2008 09:18 PM

So my collared has a history of being sick.. last winter (around this time), it was treated for URI and was ill for a few months and it took many injections and medications to get her well again after a few months. I don't remember the exact meds. But eventually she got better, then now again she seems to become less active and be asleep all the time. Sometimes I'm up late and she'll wake up and become active for a couple hours. It's like she's on a different time schedule as the season changes (I'm in central NY). The temps have dropped in the house, but I have increased the heat in the tank. I have a Big Apple Herp heating pad, and a 150W ceramic heat bulb. The nighttime ambient temps are reading around 80* while the daytime tems are 90 to 110 in the basking spot.

Not sure exactly what I should do. I took her to the vet a few weeks ago and she didn't seem to think anything was wrong with her. It's just odd that the same thing is happening at the same time this year as it was last year. Not sure if I should just ride it out or push for more med injections to the vet or what. She eats when I feed her and isn't losing weight.

I'm not sure how old she is, I've had her for about 3-4 years, not sure how old she was when I got her.

Right now she seems to be staying in her sleeping corner but not underneath the rock cave. She sometimes digs so she clears away the sand and gets to the heating pad. Any suggestions?

I'm not at all as experienced with collareds as others here. But, I can tell you that mine are definitely hiding and sleeping a lot more these days, and eating much less often. Seems like they are really responding to the change in season. I've assumed this is normal; my geckos and snakes do the same thing and I know it's very normal for them. I always get a little anxious about it though even after many years of seeing it.

I've been keeping a close eye on them when they are out. They seem to be in good health, just hiding more.

I'll be interested to here from others.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

John (Hayseed)

Yes it's interesting! When she's awake, it's like she's normal, but she is definitely sleeping more and hiding more. But otherwise completely fine. She eats normally too. Even though I try to keep the heat up inside, it's like she knows that the season is changing outside.
