why i love carpet pythons

meeslither Nov 23, 2008 05:02 PM

Ive been keeping snakes for as long as I can remember and although I profess nothing, I kinda know what im doing. But, i had a boo boo recently when i was feeding my new coastal. He is an 08 and not very well established and it takes him a long time to eat his 3 fuzzies which i feed one at a time with lots of jiggelig and teasing. after his second fuzzy and about a half hour, an old friend showed up at my door and I forgot all about the snake and the fact that his cage was open. I hate to admit it but I end up going out for drinks with my buddy, leaving the cage open and unattended for nearly six hours. I know, i know, im an idiot. But I come home and wouldnt you know the little bugger is still in his cage, coiled up on his favorite branch, like theres no where else he'd rather be. I could've kissed him. Ok, I did kiss him. One more reason to love carpet pythons.

I had some punk kids break into my house once. They stole a bunch of stuff. Left the snakes, but opened some of the tanks. On of my Coastals was wrapped around the arm of a chair near her tank. My big male was nowhere to be found, but he showed up later no worse for wear! I love carpets too. But, dude, be careful.

What a good little critter you got there, and a big PHEW!

I've done that before too, with my carpets also, except not for 6 hours- LOL! (did it with a locally caught coral- wife FREAKED, and I found it in a hurry!)

What is it about the carpets that we do that with, and not our kings or pits?

If it were the kings or pits, they'd be GONE!

Post a pic if you have any available!

I suspect mine would be gone in a flash! I have to up his feeding (he also is an 08 but is searching for #3 after #2 is down). I *KNOW* my jaya would have been MIA. Not too sure about the new coastal. But my babies woulda been gone in a snap!

Lucky you!!

I need to get a bigger setup for my JCP so the second his cage opens he wants to flee.

Plus, having 2 cats in the house doesn't help .

We've all done similar things. Maybe not left for drinks, but I know I've left the cage open or unlocked without thinking only to realize my mistake later. Glad to hear that he stayed in the cage the whole time
