pre-lay shed?

squidlyjoe Nov 23, 2008 08:55 PM

One of my females that I am breeding this year has been locking up with a male for more than a month now and she shed today. My question is will there be obvious eggs in her system now? I haven't seen an ovulation but I haven't been looking that hard nor do I really know what I am looking for. I've tried palpating but again this is my first year breeding so I don't really know what I'm feeling for. Should there be huge lumps in her now if she is gravid? Should I expect eggs in roughly 30 days?
Thanks
Bob

What you need to do is relax and ask these questions again in four or five months when she'll be getting closer to ovulation.

Just keep pairing them until march . Rest the male on the weekends and watch for a midbody swell that will last from 12-48 hours. She will start to lay inverted usually go through a shed and then lay in 30 days or so. Most females bred now will lay early spring ! Usually ! Keep up the good work and you will have eggs in no time . Get that incubator ready !
