In NYC where I live it is illegal to own a boa or python. However I know lots of folks that own both including myself. You just have to go outside of NYC to buy one. It's not a big deal. I've walked in public parks with them draped over my shoulder in front of parks department employees and uniformed police and no one did a thing. BUT, if someone really wanted to report you they could which could result in a summons.

thanks for answering i did not think any body would. i live upstate actually and i plan on getting a couple for my self you can actually buy them at you nearest petco up here. i was reading that posting about the federal govt banning them all together with which i believe is totally un fair, hopefully that wont happen. Do you think that can happen? i mean think about it are all the people that already own one or more boas or pythons surpose to do just dump all thier large constrictors in the street they already own.

I wouldn't worry about even if they did, which I doubt they will. I'm not sure how strict laws are enforced in upstate NY, but like I said, it's not an issue in NYC. The only hassle is you have to get your boas via the internet or outside the city.
