? On Cooling

HerbieThePython Nov 25, 2008 07:58 AM

I am going to try to breed my pair for the first time. They have now been cooled for 4 weeks. My question is, once I put them together in the same enclosure for breeding, do I continue to remove the heat source at night?

Perhaps someone else can chime in on this since the Minnesota weather means I really don't need to cool to the extent of some of the other breeders.

I usually only need to drop my temperatures by 2-3 degrees. This is done in late October or early November (at about the same time that the days are getting noticeably shorter). I then leave them at this lowered temperature (no night drop needed... my house cools sufficiently during the night to do the job) until late March or early April (again, about the time that the length of the days is noticeably changing).

Hopefully, someone from one of the warmer parts of the country will fill you in on what works for them.

We drop the night temps 10 degrees from october until march. they get 12 hours heat tape at 95 and 12 hours at 85 during breeding. Off season they get 95 on the tape 24/7 . In march is when temps go back to 95 degrees 24/7 . hope that helps !
everyone has there own opinion on this and it will vary. Basically you lower temps for breeding and then gradually bring temps back to spring time conditions. When ever a cold front comes through make sure there together ! Good luck to you I hope you get a pile of eggs.
