Sudden Boa & Python Death ??

Fredrik Sep 08, 2003 01:52 PM

A friend of mines Boa & Python collection has been affected to some sort of a virus. The snakes are dying one after another. They look fine the other day and next day are found dead, swollen, rotten smelling really bad...

Any idea what is happening, doesn´t sound like the IBD virus because they have not benn showing any nerv system problems.

Is he having necropsies performed? I don't know of any pathogen that will kill a healthy asymptomatic snake in one day and decay it to the point you describe.

Have they been showing any symptoms at all? Off feed for a few weeks? Anything?

Thats the weird thing no symptom at all, they are just found dead and rotten and swollen one day.

Ofcourse he should take them to a vet and have a necropsie performed and he is going to. Don´t know wy he has been waiting whit it ??

I am just curios what it could be, never heard of anything like this before ??

According to my vet, IBD can be almost completely asymptomatic, or have subtle symptoms easily attributed to something else.

If the snakes are dying, and he doesn't know what is causing it, why doesn't he take them to the vet?
