Constipation, Regurgitation?

rhc4y4 Nov 25, 2008 01:33 PM

I have a male pastel about 5 months old I believe, and he is gorgeous, and generally seems happy and healthy. About a month ago he regurgitated a mouse after having eaten a couple of mice of the same size in the previous two weeks. I waited a week, then tried again with a smaller mouse (I was feeding him adult mice) about weenling size or small adult. He ate just fine that time, and then ate another time or two just fine. However, I fed him again on Saturday, and he regurgitated that mouse too, and I know it wasn't because the mouse was too big. He's a pretty big boy, but I've noticed his hind end seems abnormally large compared to him normally. Could it be that he is constipated or something and therefore regurgitated? The first mouse he threw up seemed whole and not digested at all, but the most recent one was in the water bowl and seem part-way digested. Does constipation occur in snakes, and does that seem like a reason he might regurgitate? The link will take you to pics of the snake, the first three pics are him.
My pastel.

If he hasnt pooped for sometime a good long soak in warm water always seems to help them with that. Put him into a warm soak and leave him for an hour or so and see if that helps regulate him. If it doesnt work I would try the same thing a day or two later. It has always worked for me. The warm water must relax them so much they just seem to put everything out. Hope it works for you.

I had the same issue with a borneo, I took him to the vet for regurgitating often. The vet manipulated him and he passed a huge urate and a large turd, but after a few feedings he started again. I talked to the vet and he said to use mineral oil for a laxitive, injected in f/t or p/k or on the fur of live.Smaller mice helped some, but switching to rats ended the issue. He is now up to large rats and has never regurged a rat yet.
