Some Red BHP'S

Tom Keogan Nov 25, 2008 07:31 PM

I tried to take some new pics of some redish Blackheads but I can't catch the colors in the pics. I tried the white sided container trick but they still look washed out in the pics. What else works?

Hi Tom,
Very nice BHPs! I was wondering when someone was going to breed out the red phase. I have had luck capturing red and other true colors by using a full spectrum light instead of the flash. I just hang mine above the snakes.
Here is a pic that shows the red in this hog, that is true to life using full spectrum lights. Also you can use a sunny natural light.

Do these represent what some call "eastern" BHP's? It is confusing to me; I am beginning to think that there really is no distinction between western and eastern BHP's and the difference is just artificial labeling. At any rate, those are really nice looking snakes. I am pretty new to BHP's (got 2.2 from Derek this year), but they are the most intresting snake I have ever kept. Sort of a python that acts (and grows quickly) like an indigo.

Hey there Tim....good to see ys around.

You are right , there are no differences in east and west BHP's to date. Although....researchers would like to move the "Pilbara" region animals into there own sub species.
They are considered one species.

In the states.....the reds come from mostly eastern or "queensland" animals....although in other regoins of western aussie (outside of the Pilbara)there are "red" banded BHPs as well.

Tom and I both have a good start on the reds......I think I've sent you pictures before.
Hope all is well woth ya. Happy Thanksgiving.

Cheers,
D.
