breeding question

chad-hulker Nov 26, 2008 12:25 PM

Hey everyone. I'm fairly new to the gecko community and have my first group of leos, all hatched in 08 and range from 40-46 grams. I currently have 1.4 in a 20 gal long with all the proper temps and essentials. If i were to leave them the way they are without cooling them or separating them...would they just do there thing and start laying eggs whenever they're ready? Or would i get better results separating them and introducing them at a later time. Any advice would be appreciated. thank you

First of all, a 20 gallon long is entirely too small for 5 adult leos. You either need another 20 gallon long or you need to invest in a 40 gallon breeder. Your geckos are more than likely stressed from being too cramped. Therefore, you won't have a good breeding season.

Also they are too young to breed - for the females at least, breeding will take away nutrients and energy that they need for growing right now. If you keep them together, odds are they'll breed before they're really ready for it, just like human teenagers. Separate them until they're at least 60 grams or so and preferably a year and a half old.
