Leucisitc

ohernz Nov 26, 2008 03:58 PM

I just saw this pic of a black eyed leucistic from Casey Lasik Reptiles in the kingsnake classifieds...the snake has yellow blotches on its back...is this a common occurrence in black eyed leucistics?

I have seen it before. I think it's wicked awesome looking..
If I had the money I would buy it..

the amount of yellow is variable like pieds.

Yes it is or at least in any of the animals I have seen offered for sale. I don't know if any particular line of Fires is more or less likely to have less/no yellow. Greg Graziani posted some pics of different Lucy lines. Amirs line, can't remember the "name" was by far the whitest. Anyone else remember the post to which I refer? JP

I believe Amir's are called Latte or super Mocha?
I was thinking they have a faint stripe? We bought a ch BEL that doesnt really look like any of them. It's a male.If I can figure out how to post a pic..will post a couple of him.I know we wont know what he is til we breed him.His pic may still be on David Fernandez site if anyone wants to take a look.

I believe the mocha/latte is in the BLUE eyed complex with lesser/butter, mojave, phantom, Vin Russo, hidden and special.

Amir does have his own BLACK eyed leucistic hets also. I think maybe they are called "flame hypo" but I might have the name wrong. Last I heard they might not have the yellow blotches that the fire tends to have in the homozygous form. I'm not sure if they have been proven compatible with fire or not.

Also, sulfur has now been found to produce black eyed leucistic but I don't think it has been tested for compatibility with fire yet. I think it does have the yellow blotches on the leucistics. Sulfur could be the exact same as fire, or perhaps a different mutation of the same gene as fire, or a mutation of a different gene that just happens to look a lot like fire in both the heterozygous and homozygous forms. Just not enough breedings to know yet.

If that's not the name Randy you are pretty darn close. If only I could ever find what I am looking for with the search function. JP
