SHEDDING PROBLEMS

resims Nov 26, 2008 04:40 PM

I have a 2month old guyana thats very healthy that ive had for about a month now and it started to shed last week. While it was about to shed I misted its cage like 3 times a day to keep the humidity levels up but its apparent that it wasnt good enough because its shedding in patches instead of one piece. Is there anything that i can do to get rid of the unshed skin?

Yes, If you have a small rubbermaid container fill it with tepid water to a level as high as the snakes body, put the lid on and put it back in your cage if it will fit.

Let the animal soak for 45 minuets to an hour, this should soften skin enough to allow you "roll" it off with your hands.

Now the most important part is you need to know what your humidity levels are and how long your set up will mantain proper levels.

I can adjust for higher humidity levels by covering or un covering vents in my system. What type of cage do you have? Maybe I can suggest some things to try.

Hope this helps

I have my guyana in a 20 gallon tank with about 40 to 50% humidity levels.I also cover up most of the screen to keep a more regulated temp and humidity.I mist the cage down 1 or twice a day.Living in northern IL,i gota crank up the heat to maintain a temp of 70 to 75 degrees in my place so im thinkin that at night the humidity levels drop considerably.Im going to try out your idea and see how it works.thanks for the advice
