Some Recent Collection Pics

AllanBartlett Nov 26, 2008 05:07 PM

Here are some recent pics of my collection that I had taken by my friend Brad Alexander. It's a good representation of my agalma collection that I've been working on for a long time.

First pic is a high band count male agalma I am plugging in to some line bred females to try and increase the band count on the babies.

This is my best looking breeder male agalma.

Next is a really nice adult female that will breed for the first time next year

This was the best looking baby from 2007 that I held back(it's a male)

Lastly is a baby male produced this year

That's it. Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving

Do you find that the amount of black is lessening with each year? Or are those just way out of the ordinary animals.

I must confess, I am a mtn king enthusiast from afar, and I like them any way they come. But those light agalma are awesome.

Mark,

This line of agalmas has been line bred for almost twenty years now. To answer your first question...yes. That has been one of my goals...to reduce the black as much as I can each year. I also I'm trying to increase the number of triads and get as light an orange color that I can. Kinda of a 3-D chess game if you will. So far so good. The other nice thing about this project is that these aforementioned traits that I have refined are not simple recessive traits. I'm only getting a couple really really nice animals every year out of 20 to 30 produced and I'm holding those back for the most part. A few really nice ones I have trickled out to good friends. I see a good future for these animals.

is the underpinning of any great project. Job well done Allan. I'm sure many will enjoy these gems for years to come. All the best my friend, and Happy Turkey too...

Turkey neck Phil? That's just wrong coming from a fella with small giblets -- or so the rumor goes. Haha!!!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and spent quality time with loved ones, and of course kept loved ones that have passed on in spirit. And now for the fat man with presents...I hope all my lights work this year.

First, that you can herp in the Baja mountains. I LOVE Baja, wish that I could live there.

Second, that you found a Baja Mountain Kingsnake. Man, what a score. You are one of a rare few herpers who ever will find one. I just hope that numbers in the wild are constant & sustainable.

Yours are some of the most beautiful animals I've ever seen. I've been tempted to get mountain specimens for years, but opted for lowland species in hopes of longer activity and to avoid the mysterious zonata disease.

Thanks for sharing!

My mistake. I already feel sufficiently embarrassed. I glanced too quickly at your line and thought that you had recently COLLECTED the male in top photo, to add to your existing collection.
