Crickets escape 10 gallon tank easily?

Omnivorous Nov 26, 2008 08:27 PM

I have heard that if you use a 10 gallon tank to house crickets they will climb the silicone in the corners and can escape. This would not normaly be a problem for me but I use mostly small crickets at this time and the lid I would use I am sure they can crawl through the holes in the screen. Is there something you can stop them from climbing the silicone with? Besides scrapeing it off. They cant hop high enough to get to the screen but I need a way to stop them from climbing the silicone until I graduate to larget crickets at a later time.

You may be able to resolve this problem by applying packing tape to the corners of the aquarium. Use the stuff that is plastic/real slick and about 2" wide. Apply the tape vertically over the silicon sealer. I have not tried this technique personally but it may work for you. Good luck!

this may sound crazy, but a friend of mine has a bait and tackle shop, he sells crickets, the top 3or4 inchs of his tank is the color white he told me the crickets will not cross the white section for some reason
