A few breeding questions

macksnowgeckos Nov 26, 2008 09:09 PM

Ihave had a few geckos for a few months now and have done seriously more than 100 hours of research about breeding them but i would like to know a few things that I have not been able to find out before i get started like, Where can I get vermeculet from and the daily maitnence of a HovaBator and what type is the best, also if you dont keep males and females together except for breeding season do they only have to breed once for all the cluthches of need to be bred after every clutch of do they need to be together for the whole breeding season, also I would like to make a rack because I already have 7 but I dont want to make it out of tubs but possibly out of melamine or something with sliding doors so any tips would be great
thanks in advance for the help

I can help with a few of your questions.

1.You can get vermiculite at Lowes or garden nurseries. I found it cheapest at Lowes

2.You should put your hovabator somewhere where the temps don't fluctuate to much I would set it up and ready a few days before you would need it so you can get the temps you want and then check the temps daily, you would need to add water accordingly the higher the temps the more often you would need to add.

3.They only have to breed once per season and she will lay for the entire season. 3-10 clutches is normal although I do have a couple that lay 12-15 clutches. Don't worry if you have one that lays single eggs I have one that most of the time she will lay only 1 egg but sometimes lays 2, strange I know but she is healthy and so are her babies so I don't worry about it.

I have no idea about the rack system sorry.

I hope I have helped GL with your breeding.
