Baby Leo Health Issue

coheed196 Nov 26, 2008 10:21 PM

I hatched out a baby about 2 months ago. He's been doing fine and eating and everything. Well tonight I went to refill his food dish and noticed that his back legs didnt seem to be working right. He can move them but it looks like they aren't bending the way they should or something. He has calcium w/D3 in his cage at all times so I know its not that, it isnt impaction as he is kept on paper towels. There is nothing that could have fallen on him and the highest point he could have fallen from is 4.5 inches off the top of his deli cup hide. I am not new to this, I have been breeding leos for about 2 years, the temps are right so it's nothing to do with that. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this happen or knows what causes this. I've done some research and apparently it happens quite often, Im just curious and have no idea what to do.

Hmm - are you supplementing the insects in addition to leaving a dish of calcium in the cage?

Some leos will not eat the calcium in the dish and therefore will develop calcium deficiencies.

The difficulty walking and not bending properly sound like a calcium problem...
