Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio? In this case the Cal. mtn. kings. Have they become extinct in collections? Have only seen a few agama's put on the block and that's it.

There is not a ton of them available "yet" but they are around.. Alan just posted some of his breeders/keepers on the Kingsnake forum and another frequent poster, Jerry Kruse is also working with several top quality animals from just about every local as well.
Good luck.. be patient!

Like Mike said,
there are several of us working with them.
Jerry Kruse, Allan Bartlett, Ryan Hoyer.....,
just to name a few. I think you'll start seeing some
amazing Zonata projects in the next few seasons.

Wow, it's amazing how it helps to step back to look at the forest as a whole then being too close to a single tree. Mike, Buddha will provide....

Man, those are beautiful!!! I recently decided that mountain kings are my favorites and probably what I would like to end up breeding in the future. Glad someone posted this because I have been searching for them myself. I will be looking for them at the shows!!
Glad to see you got the fever. They can be a bit challenging at times, but worth it. You may want to look a bit past the shows currently as they need a bit more time to make it to the tables in any quantities. Take care . . .

Love the parv and the multifasciata.
I recently visited a beauty of a spot that is virgin smack in multifasciata range in San Bernardino county. I only get there once a year and always in the wrong season, but I enjoy walking by the rocks and carefully peering in the crevices anyhoo. I've begun to see a pattern of which rocks have the abundance of lizards and hold the mositure better while still warming up nicely. Just wish I could be there in the more promising time of year.
And the San Bernardinos, just love the nuances in that mountain range. There is always something to see there even if the zonata aren't showing themselves that day.

for the kind words. I will be out that way in 2009. Woohaa!!!

May the serpent gods reward you. I see your pics of the native Calif ssp and am happy for you. I can only have one animal being in California, no pulchra. Oh well.
BTW I meant Santa Barbara county for that multifasciata habitat, typed San Bernardino.

I have a 06 female (L. z. agalma) I bought from some guy at Hamburg for $75 (sorry I don't have a picture handy). Great girl with lots of personality, though it took me a season to get her to accept frozen/thawed.
Since then I have discovered Demian Lewis (www.northwindreptiles.com) who breeds them here in the Mid-Atlantic region. He wants more money per animal than I spent, but he has no problem selling them (he has a waiting list for next year!).
Anyways, zonatas are great and a real jewel in the genus. Why they aren't the most popular Lampropeltis is beyond me, but I'm really not complaining since I have something that is somewhat unique.

I'd kinda like to keep it that way, LOL. I like having no competition. You should however start to see some more produced in the next few years.

Where have YOU gone? LOL.

Hibernating till the spring. Looks like zonatas not in my future if only hatchlings available. It was worth a try anyway.

You're just an airplane ticket and a California fishing permit away...

Don't you hate it when you're always right and hit the nail on the head or is it the other way around. I just got back (can't say where or show any pix), but I collected some neat stuff. Can't say the same for the locals. I thought the no. 7 train and the LIRR took the cake, but those woods are contaminated. LOL
Here's to next season and some new seasoning.
