HEAT CABLE?

mugencrx Nov 28, 2008 11:06 AM

I am familiar with heat tape (flexwatt) but I keep hearing people talk about using heat cable. What is heat cable exactly, isnt it the same thing they use to run along water pipes for they dont freeze in the winter time? How could you use a thermostat with this system? Also how do you run it in your rack system? The same way you run your heat tape?

Heat cable is generally used with the newer vision racks and stackable enclosures there are grooves in the racking to wrap the cable from layer to layer it is cotrolled by any thermostat with a probe placed at the midway point of the heat cable

Its pretty much the same stuff used to heat pipe in the winter.
I use a thermostat with a heat probe in a rack system.
The heat probe is taped to the heat cable to always get a good reading.
In my opinion heat cable is much safer then heat tape and is more consistent along the length of the cable.
Just remember if you use the stuff. usualy the first couple feet is dead and does not emit any heat.
Hope this helps
