Visionarium tank for adult CaliKing?

GAkayaker Nov 28, 2008 11:21 PM

Would a Visionarium tank (30"x 12"x 12" ) be adequate (specifically escape-proof) for an adult (about 4 y.o.) California Kingsnake? The alternative I am looking at is most likely a 20 long Critter Cage. I just came across the snake at a local pet store today. The pet store has the 20 long critter cage in stock, but I like the idea of the front access and stack-ability of the Visionarium.

Specifically, is the knockdown/component design of the Visionarium tanks strong enough to house an adult Caliking?

As am aside, I am new to the kingsnake forum and have gotten a lot of great info just by reading past threads.

Thanks,
GAkayaker

For an adult (3-4 ft) king I believe the 20" long Critter Cage is pretty cramped. The 30" long Visionarium would be minimal as due to its construction the overall interior space is reduced so that it is a bit smaller inside than a 30" Critter Cage. Also the "debris dam" is a little too low in my opinion, so if using a substrate you'll probably wind up with lots of it in the slide rails, which is kind of a pain. As for strength, the Visionarium is very sturdy and I would anticipate no failure due to its construction. Another cool thing is that you can put stuff on top which is a big deal.
I would recommend no less than a 30" Critter Cage, especially if your king is active.

Cheers,
Brad
