Aspen chips bedding.

Omnivorous Nov 29, 2008 02:48 PM

Has anyone tried those "aspen" chips as substrate. The guy at the reptile store I went to said I should try those for substrate when I mentioned I used tile. He says it passes througgh them if they eat it and they mostly spit it up. That stuff looks bigger than sand to me. Wouldnt that be worse? I dont know it looked like the stuff you get in packs of wax worms and mealworms. Tiny wood chips.

No no no no no never ever ever no

To put it simply...

Any kind of wood chip is a horrible idea for a leo (another example of why never to listen to petstore employees, lol) - they can cause impactions, are difficult to walk through, and are dirty. Aspen is great for snakes but a big no no for Leos.

I think I know what type you're talking about, and I know it seems like it might be okay to use, but it's not. I had to place my leos on this substrate once in an emergency situation. They didn't look like they enjoyed the new substrate anyways. Aspen is meant for snakes and other herps, keep it away from your leo.
