well im new to monitors.my buddy is sending me an adult female red ackie.questions are what how big should my housing be?temps and set-up..any info would be great thanx brian

You can find info at our site, check the caresheet and FAQ section. I would use a 4 ft cage for an adult.

There is a new Ackie article that I wrote in the current issue of Reptiles USA Annual, check with me if you need a copy of the article.

At the pet sore i work at we have a male red ackie as the store pet. They need a basking area of 110-135f and you should never let it get below 75f at night. He is an adult male and is in a 55gallon tank and uses all of it. Eats about 60 large crickets a week on average( in the winter he eats much less) and loves to eat smaller fuzzie mice, he gets one once per week. We use wallnut chips for substrate and mixt his cage a lot to keep the humidity up around 35-60% because they tend to lose toes Hope that help and hope most of that is correct, im more of a snake guy.
