just realized its real late and itll be a while before anyone sees this so im gonna lower the incubator to 80F. is this a good idea?

BrandonSander Nov 30, 2008 02:12 AM

1: Take deep breath.
2: Don't turn off anything...the babies are actually still developing and may remain in their eggs for another 36 hours or so. They need the heat for their metabolisms to be able to absorb their egg sacks.
3. Prepare their tubs: 1 hide, 1 water dish and damp paper towels as a substrate. (I usually use the thick, strong kind so that they don't turn to mush or tear when I get them wet and wring them out). If you get the towels damp now you will most likely have to re-wet them by the time they actually emerge from their eggs. Either way is fine. Remember to give each hatchling their own tub/space.

I remember when you were worried that the eggs wouldn't make it. I'm glad to read that you've been successful so far. How many do you have?

happysurgeman Nov 30, 2008 02:21 AM

thank you soo much. i have 6. 3 have emerged their heads so far all Hets from a Het Albino female to an Albino Male. fingers are crossed. i cant even sleep.

BrandonSander Nov 30, 2008 02:29 AM

Go to sleep. They aren't going anywhere at this point. I know this is stressful, exciting and exhausting all at the same time and that is why you need to get to bed.

You'll be less likely to make rash decisions or mistakes if you catch some z's.

You've waited this long and obviously your patience has paid off so far. Another 6-8 hours can't hurt. By tomorrow, hopefully you'll have a couple white and yellow noses poking out.

I know it is tough (I've been there too!) but in all honesty, not a whole lot is going to happen between now and the time that they actually emerge and there isn't much for you to do either. Until they emerge you'll only catch little glimpses of their noses and occasionally the rest of their head also. However, if they just started pipping they won't be poking the rest of their head out or getting real brave for another 12 hours or so.

Get your rest now - tomorrow will be much more interesting.

Relax and enjoy the show. Congrats.

Isn't this just the best feeling in the world. Years of hard work and dedication finally coming to a climax. Good luck. I hope you hit a couple of visuals. JP

P.S. What the others said. Don't change anything. Just get ready for the new babies.

Here is what I do when they start pipping:

Prepare a hatching tub (ventilated tub with paper towel slightly spritzed and water dish)

Move them to the tub hatchling tub

When they all emerge - wash them off and put them back in the tub hatchling tub (you can weigh and sex them, take photos , etc. if you want)

Put them all back in the hatching tub (in the incubator)

Leave them until they've had their first shed.

After first shed -- set them up in their own tubs and feed.

Congratulations and good luck.

1) Relax.
2) Get the baby tubs ready for when they jump the egg.
3) Wonder to yourself why you didn't ask these questions in the preceding 55 days to give yourself enough time to handle the situation.......hmmmm....
