My female

Helena1 Nov 30, 2008 10:19 AM

I had my female in with two different males (separate times) earlier in the season. this went on for about 2 months.

I never witnessed any breeding, though I wasn't checking everyday. I just looked through the box to make sure water dished were still standing and no one pooped. So basically I wasn't keeping a very close eye on them.

I sold the males b/c i had to get rid of the rack I had b/c it was causing problems for me and i needed to get rid of snakes that were that size. i kept this female ball python b/c she is now a pet as the first boid i ever had.

As of a few weeks ago, she will not sit on her heat, she is always in or wrapped around her water bowl. She is not one of those "cold side preference" snakes like my bloods are.

Her humidity is right and she is not in shed so that doesn't account for her recent obsession with with her water dish.

Do I need to buy an incubator?

This was what she was doing when I opened her box (she is usually more wrapped around then this)

I'm not an expert by any means, but from what I have read and heard, sounds like she is laying cold. Most likely gonna need that incubator.

Thank you guy so much for your input it it wonderful. I'm still open to anyone's opinon. It is a bit of an open topic. I have a feeling a lot of people's opinion's will vary and I do still want to hear them!

I think I will wait on an incubator until I see her laying inverted. Good idea? Let me know what you guys think.

She was in with a spider and a pastel 50% het hypo

It doesn't hurt to be prepared but if she is laying cold she is just developing her follicles -- without a recent male introduction it
s possible she might absorb them -- hard to say if she is still retaining from the previous males.

Otherwise there are several reasons why she would be lying in her water dish

- security (does she have a properly fitting hide)
- temperature (is it too hot or too cold inside cage)
- humidity (double check with a good hygrometer)
- injury (check her over real good)
- parasites (check good)
- dirty or uncomfortable substrate
- etc.

Good luck!
