Snake rack tub question!

MimC85 Nov 30, 2008 02:36 PM

So im starting my plans for the snake rack we are going to be building in the reptile room. Im trying to pick the type of containers i want to use and then build the rack to fit them.

My question is - what brands of tubs are people using? I found some really great ones online from a place called the container store - the feature i really like about them is that they have little "feet" on the corners of the tubs so that i can run my heat tape on the bottom of the tubs instead of the back without having to elevate the tubs themselves. However, they are pretty expensive...I dont mind spending the money if i have to but im just wondering what brands people have used in the past and what they like/dislike about them?

Thanks!

Check out tubs available at your local Target, Walmart, etc. Find tub(s) that are the appropriate size for hatchlings, juvies, and adults. Then buy enough tubs to fill the rack and at least enough extras to swap out half the rack or the entire rack on cleaning day. The tubs are not all the same models. As an example, sterilite offered a 27QT that was available at CVS and Walmart but not at Target. Target had the very popular 1752, 1754, and 1756 tubs but CVS and Walmart did not. Buy enough extras because you never know when a model will be discontinued. I have seen this happen a few times with Sterilite and Rubbermaid. Get the tubs first then build the rack.
Hope this helps.

Great! Thanks guys...im heading to walmart to check out their selection, i will make a note to check target as well, im also going to price out materials at home depot. This rack is mostly to house my adults and save space in my reptile room - but will be set up to house future offspring as well. Im so excited! Im sure i will have lots of questions as i go, you guys have been a great help so far!

Thanks

I built a very nice one using 10G all glass tanks. I built a shelf "top, bottom and sides" Then put a tank on the bottom with screen lit on, put a shelf above it about 1/6" above the screen top, then I put another tank on that shelf and repeated all the way up.
