I got this female to breed with my nice male next year. The guy I received it from said it was traded to him as an "albino". However, I have heard the term "lavender" bandied about, and this girl sure has a lavender coloration with yellow bands.

Thanks

That looks like a lavender to me, but I've never owned a lavender brooksi so wait for someone who has before being positive.

Lavender is a type of albinism, often referred to as T positive (opposed to T negative). T positive often have ruby eyes, T negative always have pink/red eyes.

The T stands for tyrosinase - an enzyme needed to make dark pigment.

In T positive albinos, they have tyrosinase but the proper creation of melanin is broken in a different way, resulting in what we call lavender. In T negative albinos, tyrosinase is missing altogether and the creation of melanin is completely borked.

Note that some modern researchers do not agree with T neg and T pos distinction, I don't know all the details.

yeah, she definitely does not have the red eyes one would associate with an albino. The eyes actually look pretty normal.

That is a lot of great info, thanks for taking the time to explain

It is a "lavender albino (aka T positive).

The true red eye albinos are pretty rare and hard to come by. They also cost around $400.. Lavender albinos are in the $50-$100. range.
