A question for broadbanded keepers

abeercan01 Dec 02, 2008 03:06 PM

Hey everybody,

I have a question for anyone that keeps broad banded copperheads. I recently took in a cb04 male broad banded copperhead.
When I first got him, I had him in a glass aquarium for about a week so i could get his cage set up in the snake room.
Every time I would even move near his cage, He would start vibrating his tail, and coil up in a striking position.
If I walked by his cage, he would strike.

All of my northern and southern copperheads have never struck at me, or even noticed I was in the room.

I was just wondering if broad bandeds just naturally had a nastier disposition.

This is the first time I had ever been around or owned a broad banded, so I have nothing to compare him with.

The guy I got him from, said he had been like that since he was born.

Thanks for any input

I hope everyone has a great day!!!

I have 1.1 Broadbands. They use to vibrate there tail and strike but have settled down. Do you have a hide for him? Is the temperature too high? I had a Blacktail Rattlesnake that was really agro. Kept the cage covered and tried not to disturb him too much .He settled down after a few months

yes he has a hide that he uses alot, I heat my snake room along with belly heat for each snake. The temps in his cage stay at a pretty constant 80 degrees.
I was watching him today and i did notice that since i moved him into a cage with only one open side instead of the aquarium with all the sides open, hes settled down a little.

It is also the individual a lot. I have Trans-Pecos, Broad-banded and a Southern. The southern is the most aggressive and also the one I've had the longest. The Broad-banded vibrates his tail a lot but doesn't strike that much and sits on a hook well. The Trans-Pecos is very mellow.
