Male sexually mature yet?

guttersnacks Dec 04, 2008 11:17 AM

I got this little generic Blairs mid-summer '07 at Hamburg and he started off really slow eating.
I worked and worked with him until he finally started eating on his own.
I've just now got him taking one adult frozen mouse and he's okay with it.
My plans are to breed him with a generic female my buddy has which is plenty old and big enough.
I'm wondering if I should put this guy down for the winter, or keep him up this winter and get lots of size on him and then breed him in 2010.
I know sometimes size takes precedence over age, but I'm not comfortable making that judgement call on the only alterna I've ever owned, so I'm running by you guys.
The blocks on the carpet in this picture are 3 inches on a side and this guy measures right at 24". Thanks in advance for the input

Honestly it is a slide rule with size and age. But with a male there is almost no risk to try him too soon. When the day comes toss him in and see how he acts. If they respond to each other then you are in good shape, if not, you may still be in good shape (not every lock is observed after all).

So give it a try...
