Orchid bark and hiding spots for bts

reptaphille Sep 08, 2003 05:30 PM

Can orchid bark be used as a substrate with bts? I have been using two different types of hides for my blue tongues, one has been pvc pipe, the other hide boxes. What do bts prefer? Do they need a hide spot that allows them to stretch out all the way? Thanks, Nate

I'd say orchid bark would be quite a good thing to use. It's size means that it's unlikely to be consumed with other foods and not only does it look and smell natural, it's pretty moisture retentive too.I know a lot of people who use orchid bark, mainly for amphibians, but also for animals that do need humidity. I'd say use it. Anyone else have a different view?

Nate: Can orchid bark be used as a substrate with bts?

James: I personally do not like it. I would recomend cypress over it.

James : Either one is fine. I use hide logs.

Nate: Do they need a hide spot that allows them to stretch out all the way?

James: Not necessarily. They are just as content being curled up. Infact, they are often found in a curled up position under things that they could have easily been streached out under. Mine often curl up inside their hide logs.
