Pre-kill your rats and if so, how do you do it? I've found rats can be a little tricky to kill. My snakes do it quite easily, but I'm no Ball Python.

Hold by tail, swing into hard surface like a wall. Dont do it all sissy like and dont try to crush it either. You dont want it bleeding. This will not generally kill the rat but stun it long enough for the python to take care fo business.

I usually hold them by the tail and using a wooden dowel strike them firmly at the base of the skull. This occasionally kills them, but more often stuns them enough for the snakes to grab them and minimize the risk of getting bit.

I used to do it like that but I got to many bleeders, then I changed to whacking them against the side of the rat room wall but I just now feed live to much of a hassle

I feed live, but occasionaly I have an escapee. I stomp the head, I feel that it is very quick way to kill them. I defintely dont want them running around my home so sometimes I have to do this.

that's what their teeth and muscles are for.....they like to kill....they were created to kill....

.really....they do it here....BUT ,I feed large mice, small rats and at times medium rats....not large like some of the food pushers in here....

I put my rats in a plastic bag and wam it against the floor but i feed them live i only do that if i freeze the rat for later.

Grab 'em by the tale and bop 'em on the head, not enough to kill them though. I want them to twitch a bit to help trigger a strike. Then I'll watch the snake feed until I'm convinced the rat is dead (in case I have to intervene).
Oh golly, if the PETA freaks would see this post...
