Question about a skin problem

brianlovescheese Dec 04, 2008 10:20 PM

I just bought myself a new spider male. I did notice he had a few small marks that might cover 3-4 scales. They aren't what I'd call blisters, they look almost like a scab thats healing. He is eating and his poop looks normal but so far I haven't had him long enough to see him shed. Also the guy I bought him from had him housed with two other balls and they all looked healthy. Anyway I've read almost everything I could about skin problems and nothing sounded like this. I was thinking about waiting for his first shed and if it didn't go with the old skin I'd take him to the vet but I wanted your opinion on the matter. I'm not sure If I can get a picture of it close enough for it to be made out but I'll work on it. Thanks in advance for any ideas and or help.

Brian

If it is in fact just a scab, he should be okay. It'll come off in time with each shed. The important thing is to keep him and his home clean to prevent infection. I'm not sure if you could put neosporin on snakes or not, but I know they make similar products.

I am not sure if Neosporin is technically OK either, but I've used it with great results.
Good Luck.

Thanks guys I was just worried about this animal after I noticed this. Plus it's not only a pet of mine it's my girlfriend's as well, lol. Gotta keep her and the snakes happy.

I have also used plain old neosporine (sp?) with great results, but once there is a scab present I don't apply it anymore. Sounds like it could just be an old scrape or two and they will go away after the snake sheds. Post some pictures if you can.

I'll try to post some pictures in the next few days.

Thanks
