SHIPPING PLEASE HELP!

micky-kennie Sep 08, 2003 05:49 PM

I'm shipping from Ohio to Maryland. What would you guys recomend? I don't want to send usps because I've heard that they hold live animals for 2 days before shipping! I was thinking ups, but they say that they don't accept live animals. I've heard about Delta Dash before, does anyone know about this? Their website said that they accept live reptiles. Is this the best way to go? What would that cost? I really need advice badly, this is my first time shipping and I'm a little nervous! Thanks!

I normall ship Express mail from the local post office. I find a box that is about 6" X 6"...poke holes (a lot) on all sides, and lable "LIVE LIZARD" on all sides too. Shipping will vary from $13.65 - $18.00. I put the lizard carefully into the appropriate sized sock, and carefully rubberband the top closed...making for certain the lizards tail is not in the area being rubberbanded. I then put some ripped up papertowel in the bottom of the box, then the sock...a bit of ripped up papertowel on all sides, and he is ready to go. express mail will Normall get there by 3:00 pm the second day, but I would venture to guess it would be next day from Ohio to Maryland.

You can also do UPS next day. It cost me $28.00 something, and got there by 10:30 am the next day. I've had lizards get late no matter what method I have used. My last lizard took eight days, but still arrived fine. Make sure the weather is ok, in case it gets held up somewhere.

Be sure to put "Live Lizard" and not "animal." They do want to know what it is.

Hope that helped.

of course, that is, unless your shipping a lizard to me, in which case the usps just forgets about its guarantees and says 5 days is soon enough

P.S. Johne, your entitled to a refund, call your local P.O. and ask them how to go about getting it.

Delta dash is costly, and you have to go to the airport to pickup the package with 3 forms of id.
Airborne express is inexpensive and usually reliable (at least for me)
I REALLY dont like usps for shipping anything, not even letters anymore, its the one legal monopoly in our country that will never topple (no other company is allowed to ship letters by ground, sounds odd, but its true).
But im just ranting, usps works for most other people, just not this person

lol, you could say that, i had to feed him nearly fullgrown crix because for some reason, all the crickets under half an inch are missing.. anyway, he seems to jsut bite the head of the large crickets, then leave the body there. But he sure does enjoy waxworms!
