FIRST TIME SHIPPER PLEASE HELP!!!!!

micky-kennie Sep 08, 2003 05:53 PM

I'm shipping 2 full grown leopard geckos from Ohio to Maryland. What would you guys recomend? I don't want to send usps because I've heard that they hold live animals for 2 days before shipping! I was thinking ups, but they say that they don't accept live animals. I've heard about Delta Dash before, does anyone know about this? Their website said that they accept live reptiles. Is this the best way to go? What would that cost? I really need advice badly, this is my first time shipping and I'm a little nervous! Thanks!

Definitely Delta Dash! You must be a verified shipper with them though. The process takes around two months they say... Someone will come and inspect your "facility" I've been waiting about a month now. This is the only legal way I know of. Believe me, I had a shipping disaster with fed ex. Make sure you read the Lacey Act. it's a long story...

You should try "AIRBORNE EXPRESS". I live in Seattle. I
shipped a box turtle last night to southern california. It
arrived in perfect condition today, before noon !! DO NOT
SHIP LATER IN THE WEEK THAN WEDNESDAY. Animals can & do
get lost over the weekend period. Some folks don't even ship
after tuesday !! Good luck !!

Airborne Express is great for shipping reptiles like your gecko's. Never had a problem with them.

I've never shipped reptiles before, but this is what I gather on this forum :
Delta Dash -- is good but you can only use if you have a commercial account which costs money and takes time to get
USPS -- will ship lizards and feeders but no snakes or turtles. May be unreliable and take two days to ship.
UPS -- Wont ship venomous, have a policy against shipping reptiles but will anyway?
Airborne express -- Will ship overnight of non-venomous, but could be unreliable.
Anything else I missed?
So really for a small time shipper of snakes its either UPS or Airborne. And whatever you use its around 35 dollars to ship.

but you have to get a special account set up with them to do so.
Baisically you sign a contract releiving them of all liability for any damage. Pretty much it is do it at your own risk.
