I think your friend needs put in the fridge. Some people just shouldn't own snakes. Heck for that matter any pets.

Not about how cold you make it so it does not have the strength to protect itself.

I have met some children that this trick would be worth a shot at though.

honestly, things like this make me understand why so many think the intelligence of NONhuman living things are superior. And in many states individuals can be arrested and or fined for animal cruelty. If the person took the advice of placing a herp in fridge maybe they will take this advice as well.....how about consulting with a local zoo and speak to those who care for reptiles, or contacting a vet who deals with exotics, or researching online.

How 'bout if we put the uncle in the freezer to speed things up, then put the friend in kindergarten to begin a life of learning.

This takes me back. Many years ago I read in a very old herp book that this was a circus practice -- cooling down the large python prior to using it in an act so it wouldn't be a threat to the handler

The same book indicated that the Indian python was a circus favorite -- more docile than the Burmese version and wouldn't go off-feed even with regular shows and transport.

But keep in mind, the practice was probably cited over 50 years ago.

Makes me wonder if some animal acts would still use the practice today.

i corrected him,but i think he was just doing what he was told and dident know better.hes not young hes 16. the snake looks normal and has eaten,i told him it may never calm down.i also explained how handling it in appropriate times can lessen the stress on the snake,i have a feeling im going to have to walk him through this.
thanks

Just because he's 16 doesn't mean anything, Ive been keeping snakes since Nov. 2005 when I was 15 and I'm 18 now and have aroud 25 ranging from boas-to retic/burms. I did as much research as I could and bought a couple books. Does he even know what sex the snake is and that it will likely get over 13' long?

staticx Dec 13, 2008 11:01 AM

i am 17 and also keep many snakes and reptiles so i sparked hes intrest.im teaching the way and will be making a cage for the retic when it grows.as for sex he doesent know.but i know what you mean about the age,its about ignorance.
thanks
