Cure for "Empty Cage Syndrome"

silentjt Dec 06, 2008 05:53 PM

My first Monitor was a V. Indicus (Mangrove) that I purchased a year ago. My only complaint was never seeing him, which is a shame since they are such beautiful Monitors.
While building his latest hiding place..er.. cage I came up with an idea. I applied reflective window film to all the glass and plexi on the cage. I’ve seen Herman (the hermit..get it?) more in the last two weeks than in the prior six months and his eating has doubled.

The first pics of Herman in 11 months!

Has anyone else tried this and if so what were your results?

Great idea. We've talked about one-way glass here before but no one I know had tried it. I didn't know you could by a stick on material. How much is it? Your cage interior looks nice. Maybe you could post some more pics. Nice monitor.

About $25 at Home depot.

Not many pics of Mangrove cage yet.

Lots of pics of my Argus cages.

Monitor run between cages.

And the occupants.

Great set up! Do they use the run between them often or prefer one cage to the other?

They use both cages but spend most of their time in the larger one (with a view of the activities in the house). They also spend a fair amount of time in the run, even sleeping there frequently.
