Bill S. Dec 06, 2008 06:30 PM

Which do you prefer, and why?

Thanks.

Bill

Inside or both.

Well, it's a whole lot easier to see dirt on a light surface. I only have one cage that had any black, and it's just the back.

Hi Bill,

I have 2 black boaphile enclosures and 2 white ones. I strongly prefer the white to the black simply because the animals seem like they're being kept in the dark even during the day in those black ones. Yes you can see the mess easier in the white cages too, but i swear, the snakes even seem happier and less restless in the white cages. The ones in the black enclosures are always up against the plastic doors trying to escape and the snakes in the white enclosures seem much less eager to get out.

After having tried both colors I'd never get a black one again... but that's just personal preference...

Hope that helps

That's interesting, Joe. My experience has been the opposite. My only white cages are for my womas, and they seem to spend alot of time looking for a way out, while my Timors and Morelia seem very secure and content in their black enclosures.

I have both. I used to think the black cages would create more sense of security for the snakes, but long term it doesn't seem to have the effect. So no preference from me.

I like the question!

My first PVC cages were black. I installed lights in them because I couldn't see well when cleaning and general maintenance observation.

The next cages I purchased were white. I prefer the white color, because I can see better. And the cages look more appealing for some reason. Fake greenery shows up nicely.

My wife likes the white cages. She thinks that with black cages I'm trying to be Slash or something. She said I need to get a black Iron Maiden shirt and wear it standing next to the cages.

When I use newspaper as a substrate, the white cage gets smudges. So I stopped using newspaper. With black cages it is a non-issue.
