I believe it's curiosity, along with an attraction to light. The type of light, I believe, is irrelevant. It happens in my sav cages with non-UVA/UVB lights and I've seen other people report the same thing.

There is the possibility that the basking spot is not hot enough so double-check the basking temps to be sure that's not the case. The actions you described are quite common, even with good basking temps, but still rule out what you can. Most monitors are inquisitive.

I have to check Sobek and my flavi-argus lightbulbs every few days, sometimes every day. Both unscrew the bulbs, or in a few cases Sobek has broken ceramic light assemblies.
My male ackie likes to climb on the bulb, but only to check for escape routes. He hasnt been out this year but last year he would escape for 1-3 weeks at a time in my basement, until I fixed the top better.

Woke up today, only to find one of my bulbs was out...it had a piece missing from it.

Food is always there so I hope they didn't decide to start eating bulbs instead of crickets.

Mike.
