If breed a 100% het pied to a 100% het albino you will get snakes that are 50% het pied, 50% het albino and 50% DH albino pied. You will have to breed a DH albino pied to a DH albino pied to get an albino pied snake.

50% het pied, 50% het albino and 50% DH albino pied? I don't think that adds up

25% probability for het piebald, 25% probability for het albino, 25% probability for het piebald AND albino, and 25% probability for het NOTHING.

Since all offspring will appear normal, you will have no idea what the hets are. If by chance you hold back two offspring and they are both het for pied and albino, then breeding them together will result in 1/16 (in theory) albino pieds.

However, the chance of a) producing a double het in the original pairing is 25%, and b) picking out and breeding two animals that are both double het is 6.25%. Not good.

Four options: another double het piebald/albino, a piebald het for albino, an albino het for piebald, or an albino piebald.

Pretty simple stuff here. Each parent requires at least one copy of the alleles in question. Your odds of producing an albino piebald increase each time a parent has two copies of the alleles in question.

pairs go from 3k up I believe and are not freely offered. then you spend the next three years raising them up. both of the genes (albino and piebald) are recessive, the animals will look normal but carry a mutated gene. you need luck when you breed them back together.

3k for pairs is the cheapest I have heard of pairs being offered from credible breeders. maybe others can shed some light, but thats the lowest I have seen them. Check out www.geneticswizard.com
to run probabilities on what your breeding, without breaking out those Pundit squares.

Sorry...made sense in my own head!

Been racking my brain over a paper due tomorrow...you explained it though.
