is www.sassupply.com

they DID sell live at one point.. you might have to call and talk to someone about if they still do, and how shipping works.

at one point i sold live rodents (mostly "show quality" stock animals).. but it was so insanely expensive it wasnt worth the time or effort. I was shipping thru delta dash (only place that will accept live rodents) and for 1 box of rodents it was clost to $180.. that was for about 30 adult mice.. or 4 large rats.. or about 10 weaned rats..

live = HUGE shipping costs.. you dont have any local breeders in your area?

I do have two colonies of mice right now and will be raising rats soon. I wondered about shipping costs and you confirmed my fears (figured there must be something up with rodents and shipping them). They cannot ship UPS or postal like when they ship live chicks from a hatchery? Shipping is not bad at all for birds. Guess I will have to be patient and raise as many as I can without spending the $2.00 a mouse that everyone seems to be getting where I live. Thanks for the info.

i made numerous phone calls about finding cheaper shipping because people were interested in pure swiss webster stock animals at the time, and i had access to as many as a person could want.

USPS and UPS both gave me the big "HELL NO" when i asked about rodents, these are the same places that wont allow you to ship a snake, but you can ship a frog or a gecko just fine.. LOL

all in all.. live rodents are a pain in the butt.. plus on top of the cost of the mice, the shipping, theres usually a $20-30 box charge because the rodents need to be shipping in a proper container they cant chew out of.. so the price is super high.

best of luck

Dan, I actually had some good fortune. I checked out the website you listed for me and that facility is only about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive from my home LOL! So, the wife and I will make a day of it and drive to pick up the live and frozen rodents that I need. They also sell used taconic travel boxes for rodents. I bet with a little toying, they would make great rodent boxes for a rack system. They are only $6.50 each, although I know there are cheaper ways to house them. I will buy one anyway for the trip home. Thanks again for the info and the website! )

You might want to build your rack system first, take one of the tubs out, make a lid for it and use it as a carrier. When I shipped guinea pigs, (25 years ago) the containers were cardboard with metal screen insides. They would not have lasted long as permanent housing.

Making a lid: build a 1"X2" (or 1"X3" frame just barely large enough to fit over the top. Cut 1/2" hardware cloth (or 1/4" for mice) and staple it to the top. If you would rather not give blood every time you pick it up, do NOT wrap the hardware cloth around the edges, like in the pic. Just cut it so it sits on top of the frame.
