AP): Wildlife officials want to know how an alligator got into a Paragould city park lake. Police officer Michael Tinnin spotted the five-foot reptile basking on the levee at Reynolds Lake last week. The animal crawled off and disappeared in the water when Tinnin approached it.
State herpetologist Kelly Irwin thinks the Reynolds Lake alligator probably migrated into Greene County. Alligators are primarily found in the south and southeastern parts of the state.
Last summer, officials captured a three-foot-long gator in the same lake. At least two others were found in nearby fish ponds in the past couple of years, and an 11-foot alligator—weighing 400 Pounds—was taken from the Cache River near Craighead County in the summer of 2000.
