Rescued Salamander....(North of Tampa Bay, FL)

sidnac100 May 24, 2003 08:06 AM

Hi. I just pulled a 4- to 5-inch salamander out of my pool (I am draining it prior to having some work done on it).

The salamander is a muddy black/brown color with a lighter belly and a few tan spots at the shoulders and by the tail. It has four toes on the front feet and five on the back. Any ideas as to what it is? My 8-year old daughter wants to keep it. (As if a leopard gecko, red-eared slider, goldfish, tetras, cats and dogs weren't enough).

I have various size tanks (ranging from 2 1/2 gallons to 10 gallons) that could be set up with minimum fuss. Any ideas on the best tank set up for it?

Thanks

Your gonna want to put it in a bit of water, not submerging it but just enough to cover its body. This will help flush the body of the chlorine. You will have to change the water every couple hours though. Also use spring water, not tap.
