A horrible shipping story (airborne) came out good...................

Andy799 Sep 08, 2003 07:32 PM

Last week i got 1.1 adult gulf coast boxies and a baby spotted and two baby blandings off a guy, and we were going to use my account to ship and have them shipped to me, well airborne charged me $10 to pick it up there at the guys house on thursday between 1-3, they never showed up......... we called them they said they would pick up friday and ship express for saturday which i didn't want to do incase of delays but the lady insured me that it would all be ok and they would cover all the charges, so they picked up the 5 friday and they were 2 hours late, well saturday i waited for them all morning and called them at noon and they got in there computers as a GROUND shipment, they screwed it all up and they didn't get here till today at noon, four days in a shipping box and somehow they all made it but the spotted is a weak, i don't know if he will make it, i think now i am swiching over to fed-ex, just thought i would share about airborne's screw up

Hopefully everyone will be okay.
All of these express shipping companies make mistakes once in a while. You were fortunate.
Glad to hear that all your turtles survived.

Besides which, I don't think FedEx accepts live turtles...
As bad as Airborne may be, I'd never try shipping on any day but Monday or Tuesday regardless!
Good luck in future shippings!

We've not had any horror stories with Airborne yet, either. In fact I give them high praises for their customer service.
Now UPS on the other had was a nightmare. I packed up a beardie to be shipped, they picked it up, took him to their hub, and then called to tell me they wouldn't deliver him. I was on the phone for over 2 hours to get this guy brought back to me (at work) without being charged (which they wanted to do, since my work address is different from my shipping address). UPS doesn't ship live animals, neither does FedEx. That's when I got my account at Airborne.

Happily your turtles are well. That one fluke, if it happens to you, is scary.

Lesha is my wife. She's the woman who not only tolerates my obsession, but shares it. She also handles all the "details" of shipping and dealing with other people when we have hatchlings or other animals coming in or out of the farm here. She's right that Airborne has been awesome for us, and not just for animals, but for other things as well (we cleaned house and ebayed a bunch of stuff not too long ago).

Anyway, she rarely posts here, so many of you might not know her.

Wow - I guess just like everything you sometimes have problems. I have been shipping with Airborne for many years, and have not had one problem, that I can think of - other than them charging me a $5.00 late fee for an invoice that I lost and did not pay.

Wish I could blame them for that one. The people that I deal with here in Cal. are great, they take special care of the turtles/tortoises, by keeping them in the AC until the last min., etc.

You really don't have a lot of choices.
