Woma questions

JL1981 Dec 09, 2008 12:11 AM

How is their temperment? Do they tolerate handling well? Do they have a nasty bite?

Thanks!!!

Babies can be a bit feisty, but adults are usually calm and not biters. My babies from this past August like to "S" up a bit, but just putting your palm down over them seems to stop that. I've never had them bite, or try to bite...unless you have food in your hand

The vast majority of woma pythons seem to be incredibly docile -- this is certainly their popular reputation (though I've seen one or two anomalous exceptions).

Jaykis is right on. I've been bit only once by a woma; it was a juvenile and she bit my finger minutes after I finished eating a bunless hot dog (I'm a bachelor...throw me a bone). She let go instantly and I continued holding her for about ten minutes without incident. It never happened again.

I have one or two anomolous exceptions, LOL. Most of them are great, but they do have a strong feeding response and I have 2 big girls(for Womas) that will grab you like a pitbull if theythink you might be food. And although rare, the bite is pretty strong.

That being said, they're great and very fun to keep.

I've had 2 females in the past that would launch themselves at any movement in front of their cage...BUT would not bite once in my hands.
