my BP strikes at me

LeeFobes May 24, 2003 08:17 AM

He/She has been in shed for about 1 week but all thats left is about 3 inches or so or skin from his neck to his head. i soaked him for 10 mins very carefully about 2 days ago. When i pick him up he will eventually strike at me and almost get ahold of me. What happens if he does connect? would he curl around and try to kill me? or bite and let go? hes about 2 feet long. its my first snake and i dont want to get rid of him. I have UTH and Black light, 1 big drift wood piece and a hidebox that he goes into. I think (i hope!) this will go away when his eyecaps fall off (there is about half eye covered with skin on each eye). Even if i look at him thrugh the glass he will curl up and when i move he will strike and hit the glass.

Are you sure he only has that much eyecap left on? It is hard to tell, I thought mine only had one shed worth on her eyes, then my vet said it was three! It could be that your snake has retained more than one shed worth, and you just didn't notice. Very easy to overlook, I guess, as my vet didn't give me the lecture...
Also, (my vet rocks!) she swears to me that a bite feels like a bee sting, and they will let go on their own. A great site to check is Proexotics.com, they have alot of common ??"s, and have responded to my emails in times of high snake drama.
Good luck, and when all else fails, go to a good vet. They are priceless...
