Question for Chris

BobS Dec 10, 2008 02:51 PM

Happy Holidays Chris. I was wondering if you might have some ideas for how to deal with a minor problem I'm having with the Iris CB110 boxes. I like them a lot but when you slide the tubs back into the rack the feet underneath about midway "thump". I try to hold the tub "up" as I slide it in but it happens alot any way. It annoys me and I'm sure the tub inhabitant. Any ideas for a quick fix? I'm not too handy like a lot of the rest of you. Thanks.

Hi Bob,

This is one of the reasons why I prefer not to use boxes with feet if at all possible. But the CB110 is a nice box and it looks like the racks you have are keepers so making it work is a good idea.

Having not seen a CB110 in a while, my first thought is to use a file or dremel to but a bevel on the back edge of each foot. But if the foot is actually ring of plastic with a hollow center this may not work so well.

If the racks are only held together with screws you could also take them apart and have a bevel or bullnose on the front edge of each shelf. If you or a friend have a router mounted on a table this would be pretty easy.

Or you could do a combination of both.

I hope one of these works. Maybe somebody else will have a better idea.

While holding the box up with one hand, take out the water bowl with the other and grab the snake with your teeth. Now use one leg to ..

Or get REAL cages, ha ha he he ho ho. (Just messing with you.) OK, so maybe I'm not the biggest supporter of racks lol.

BTW, how is the pyro doing in the big Vision cage?

They are all doing well thanks just redampened the moss in their cages hides. You are hanging out with FRs posts too much I'm seeing an influence LOL I have yet to mess around with the Coconut husk and sand stuff (I bought it but...) I think FR is very insightful and while I use cages, I must admit I do also like the ease of maintenance of Racks. I am trying to figure out ways to increase humidity (do well by my snakes) and have some conveinience. Have a good nite.
Bob.

Mark,

My wheels are spinning about all of FRs post about better caring for Kings with choices etc. Here is a pic I saved to my pictures that I got off the interenet a long time ago(Don't want to take credit, hope the original owner doesn't mind). This way I could use solid black Bus boxes (I own) and have one side moist, maybe with the Cocnut stuff you talk about and the other dry newspaper and a hotspot above with an undertank pad also. The boxes underneath don't even need to be heated(I think) I'm just not handy like a lot of the guys here. I asked AP for a quote. LOL :

Now why haven't I thought of that? Perfect! Thanks for posting.

BTW, I know using the coconut-sand mixture is a pain. I do use it with babies - they truly benefit.

I've cut my collection way down. In doing so I've gone with bigger cages (low-height) and have been able to increase the humidity a bit by other means. So now I'm using aspen with adults because, like you said, it is easier to work with. The kings can reduce moisture loss with tight hides, so that is one method to make using a dry substrate possible, coupled with moist hide opportunity.

Me too Mark. I'm keeping a smaller collection. Gives you more time to dote on the individuals rather than being overwhelmed by the many LOL
