need opinions for boa breeding..

bergmantis Dec 10, 2008 04:00 PM

I paired my DH sunglows at the end of Oct. They had their tails locked (not sure if it was just courting or copulation) for about a week or two off and on. Since then, I havent witnessed any action. Should I try pulling them apart for a week and feeding them? Should I just leave them together and see what happens? Should I put another male in? This is my first time breeding boas.

Thanks,

Mat

I seperate my pairs once a month for feeding. Of course not when their tails are wrapped. I leave them apart for a couple of days and re-introduce the male. Also a good opportunity fir a full cage clean.

Dave,
Do you offer both of them a meal, or just the female?
Also, a normal sized meal or prey that is smaller than what is normally fed?

Thanks!!!!

Both for sure, Don't want either of them going hungry if not needed. I do keep prey size on the small end. Not significantly smaller than typical but then again, even during other times of the year, I tend to keep meals small for the males and I don't let the females gorge themselves either.

IMO most keepers overfeed their snakes. I believe in lean, muscular and even smaller animals, both male and female. I think they make stronger breeders. Maybe not as large a litter as you could get but healthy!!!!

If there is no activity I would seperate them for a smaller than normal feeding, wait a couple of days and reintroduce them.
