BLOOOOOOOOOODS!! I also keep jungle carpets and a pair of fire skinks. My bloods are definitely the most challenging, but they are all wonderful animals to keep.

happysurgeman Dec 10, 2008 08:29 PM

bloods, are they picky eaters like balls? or do they have good apetites?

CrazyGecko Dec 10, 2008 08:42 PM

if kept correctly a blood is an insanely agressive feeder. They hit there food like a Mac truck.

kthulhu Dec 10, 2008 09:54 PM

Amen to that...I have a P. curtus who is just nuts at night when the lights are off. He was a little picky when he was younger, but now if you walk past his tub at night you can here him striking. I had a pair of plastic feeding tongs that he snapped in half from the force of his strikes. Gotta love the bloods!

bloodpythons Dec 10, 2008 11:16 PM

Bloods are the perfect pet snake for someone who really wants to get into their animals! They are quite hardy, eat like gang busters & are easy to breed if you "tune in" - not rocket science, but still make you think.

And did I mention they're GORGEOUS?!?!?!??!?!

Bloods are awesome, and I've heard they're very aggressive feeders. But are they easy to handle like balls? Just curious...

I dont think so. I have a selection of balls in the rescue and also bloods in my personal collection. Bloods are a plotting thinking bunch. Balls I love because I can easily incorporate them into educational programs, tossing them basically to who ever wants to hold a snake. Bloods are amazingly active for their size, settle down slowly in hands, and tend to buck people who do not know how to handle snakes. Quite honestly, I stick my balls in an open rubbermaid on the floor when cleaning racks. When I clean my bloods, they go into a spare cage. They have the amazing feeding response which 3 years into keeping STILL makes me jump. They take a patient hand who doesnt pressure them into going where the handler wants, but supports them and moves with them.

Does that make sense?

Hey this is a very cool post.

I have a pair of Balls, a pair of Coastal Carpets, too many corn snakes, a lot of geckos, and a tank full of collared lizards.

You should consider Carpets!

I definitely plan on getting more geckos and all different kinds. I love them and they take up so little space!

Honestly, the bisggest challenge I've had is the damn Collared lizards. These are common, well known, but hardly captive bred at all. I got a group of them just cause I think they're so cute. But this was my first real experience at acclimating wild-caught reptiles. At first it was a never-ending battle just to keep them healthy, hydrated and eating. Now they seem to be thriving. I love them, even though many people don't keep Collareds.

Go with whatever really inspires you. That's what it's all about.

i love bengals. i have always wanted a F2 Savannah Cat ( serval x domestic) wuld you know anyone that breeds them and how much they go for?

morphed Dec 11, 2008 09:25 PM

I do not know their exact price I believe F1s are still close to 10k I am not sure about F2s. There is a company A1 Savannahas I beleive they are out of NY. I have met them before at cat shows and they have the regular tabby color and the blacks. They have very nice looking cats though. I really like Servals but never feel in love with the Savannahas for some reason, I just do not have the space for the serval
Thanks Kim

Aha a cat lover. What color is that bottom classic ? We breed sphynx and minskins . Got into a munchkin line that was an outcross to bengal and had the chocolate classic and cinnamon classic. Those Asian Leopard cats are gorgeous. That cross with the DSH was actually made to try to create bloodlines immune to feline leukemia werent they?

I had a cockatoo once and it screamed way to much. They say to give them as much attention when handfeeding as you will be able to maintain throughout their life as they will expect that much...our bird was hand raised by an elderly lady who spent all day every day holding her and talking to her...nightmare...I was able to find her a home with another lady who could be with her as much. She also gave me asthma attacks and unless I have an aviary someday...we wont have another bird.
