If he got them from a pet store, $40-$60 each.
If he got them from a breeder/reseller $15-$25 each.
Prices vary not only by who you buy from, but the quality of the parents as well.

what do good quality reds look like? Also how many eggs do the average corns lay?
I have a lot of questions and was wondering if there are any books you guys would recommend?

Most red albinos are average looking. There are certain refined types like candy cane, reverse Okeetee, sunglow, etc. that have been selectively bred for specific traits. You can find photos of different types of albinos by visiting the websites of this forum's sponsers, searching the internet, looking at books, etc.
There are at least two excellent books on the market."The Corn Snake Manual" by Kathy Love delves into breeding corns with more detail than any other book I can think of. Don Soderberg's book "Corn Snakes in Captivity" is excellent for first time snake owners.
Corns lay an average of 14-16 eggs in their first clutch and then often have a second clutch of 12 (in my experience).

Hey tim, I had a corn snake lay a first clutch of 29 eggs (all good) and the following year had one of 33 (30 were good). Of course, she was 5yrs old at her first breeding. lol.
I know this is not typical, but I thought kind of cool. With my Limited experience, my average clutch size is 8-12 first year(at 3 years old), then on average 12-15 after. I do have a couple snakes who give me 15-20 every year. Those are great snakes!
Again, this is in MY experience. It may not be typical.

Yeah, sometimes they can drop quite a few. A few years back this Miami dropped well over 30 (if I remember correctly it was 42 eggs). It seems some snakes are genetically inclined to lay large clutches of small eggs.
