Silly Question Time

I'm sad that the most interestingly textured snakes (like, say, atheris hispida) are also hot. I love handling my snakes, it would be so cool to have something so bristly perched on my hand.

There's no 'pet-safe' snake I'm not thinking of, is there? The best I can think of is the hognose.

It is unfortunate most odd snakes stress easily and dont take to being held that well. At Hamburg I saw the coolest snake. A blue file snake. Too bad they are snake eaters. I draw the line there.

Pine/bull/gopher snakes have quite a texture to them. It isn't as visible as something like atheris, but you can really feel it when you hold them.

Then you need something nubbly like a sand boa and something glass-smooth like some of the king snakes.

A couple of rough scaled non-venomous snakes that come to mind are
- the South American Eyelash Boa (Trachyboa boulengeri)
- the South Pacific Rough-scaled Boa (Candoia asper)

Neither is a spiny as some of the Atheris, but they are still pretty rough!

Oh wow, the eyelash looks amazing! Do we know anyone that breeds it?
