Question on gravid female

helena1 Dec 12, 2008 09:59 AM

I am almost positive that my female ball python is gravid. She is one of my calmest snakes and I am doing another educational show next week. I really want to bring her yet b/c of her small size and great temperament.

Will she have a higher chance of absorbing her folicles or having problems with development or should i just leave her at home?

I am thinking I should probably leave her at home but if you guys think that she should be fine, than i would love to have her come. She is so great with other people.

No, I wouldn't take a female you think might be gravid to an educational event. You would be handling her and perhaps allowing the audience hold her too. Gravid females should be not handled at all unless absolutely necessary to ensure the success of the clutch.

Gravid means she has already fertilized her follicles and is carrying eggs -- balls don't reabsorb eggs.

If she is gravid you should leave her home -- if she is just developing follicles you could take her, but why stress her out more than you need to -- breeding puts enough stress on a snake.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I thought I would check with the experts.
