tank smell

dcjketner Dec 12, 2008 11:00 AM

i have a tank with two corn snakes, i've noticed the last couple days as funny smell coming from the tank, i've put new substate in a week ago, i've sifted through to find any droppings, is there anything to do about it, is it the snakes itself, i've had them for two weeks and never noticed it that bad.

snakes usually dont have a smell.... so it might be the tank for water.... i'd take everything out- clean everything and see if you still smell it...

you cant just change the substrate. The tank itself will get a smell. You must wipe down the glass. You can purchase a safe cage cleaner. i myself use dilute Nolvasan solution (DNS). Some people say use bleach, but then make sure you clean/rinse it until absolutely all the bleach smell is gone. i prefer to not use bleach, except in my quaranteen tanks. Up to you. You should be able to get a reptile safe cage cleaner at most pet stores.
