Should I change this UVB in a year?

titansfaninva Dec 12, 2008 05:22 PM

I'm housing a Mali Uromastyx. I just replaced her UVB fluorescent bulb (after six months). I purchased a different brand and size at the local pet store today. It is a Reptisun 10.0 UVB fluorescent measuring 48" in length. Atop claiming to be good for UVB assisted photo conversion at distances as great as 20", it also claims to continue to provide good UVA and UVB emissions for a desert terrarium for a full year. From the breeders I've talked to, it is recommended to change the UVB bulb every six months, so I'd like to confirm Reptisun's claim with the reptile community - will this fluorescent bulb truly last me a full year, or should I play it safe and replace it after the first six months?
